Heat Reduction, Recovery & Re-Use at a Flexible Packaging Company
A major international Flexible Packaging Company needed to install abatement at two factories to destroy solvent emitted by the printing process to meet environmental requirements.
The approaches considered were a simple end of pipe solution and a more sophisticated process optimization approach.
Operational were brought in to evaluate the processes and offer recommendations for the most effective solution with the lowest environmental impact.
After detailed investigation a range of process improvements and controls were suggested providing significant reduction in the abatement plant needed and minimising energy use and environmental impact.
The solutions proposed demonstrated such innovation that the Environmental and Sustainability Authority were willing to sponsor the technical development provided certain targets were met.
Two projects were carried out under this agreement which delivered results that far out stripped the Authorities targets.
- Customer: Major International Printing Company
- Initial Situation: Action needed to meet Environmental Compliance requirements
- Solution: Process optimization and control. Technical innovation
- Client Benefits: Abatement plant size reduced by 60%. Energy costs slashed by factor of 15; Waste product reduced by over 200%; 20 million litres of water saved; Productivity benefits over 110% of target.
