Abatement and Energy – Printing
A major international Flexible Packaging Company needed to install abatement at two factories to destroy solvent emitted by the printing process in order to meet environmental requirements.
The approaches considered were a simple end of pipe solution and a more sophisticated process optimisation approach.
Operational were brought in to evaluate the processes and offer recommendations for the most effective solution with the lowest environmental impact.
After detailed investigation a range of process improvements and controls were suggested providing significant reduction in the capacity of the abatement plant needed and minimising energy use and environmental impact.
The solutions proposed demonstrated such innovation that the State Environmental and Sustainability Authority were willing to sponsor the technical development provided certain targets were met.
Two projects were carried out under this agreement which delivered results far exceeding the State’s targets.
Customer: Major International Printing Company.
Initial Situation: Action needed to meet Environmental Compliance requirements.
Solution: Process optimisation and control. Technical innovation.
Client Benefits included 60% reduction of the abatement plant capacity, energy costs being reduced by over 85% and also reductions in waste product water consumption leading to increased productivity.
