Ensure proper operation of your LEL through our maintenance and testing service.

LEL systems require ongoing maintenance and testing to ensure safety and compliance.

Faulty or unmaintained systems can lead to serious consequences which can include the risk of explosion.

Our maintenance and testing regime is tailored to your process and associated hazards. During each service, we rigorously check control equipment, functionality, and alarms for all major OEM LEL brands.

Why routine maintenance for LEL Systems is essential

The Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) is the minimum concentration of a combustible gas or vapour needed for combustion in air. LEL sensors monitor and alarm if levels exceed the safe limit. Regular testing and calibration are crucial to ensure correct operation and mitigate the risk of an unsafe system.

LEL regulations and legislation requirements

Due to the high risk of flammable gases, compliance with regulations is essential, including BS EN 1539:2015, BS EN 60079-29-2:2015, BS EN 60079-17-2014, and PUWER 1998. Trained engineering personnel must test and service LEL Gas Safety Systems to meet these requirements.

Your LEL calibration program

Our qualified team collaborates with you to establish a compliant and risk-based approach to LEL sensor testing frequency. Testing and servicing depend on the operating environment and sensor type. For instance, catalytic sensors typically need quarterly testing, while infrared sensors require bi-annual testing.

Our calibration and maintenance regime has been specifically designed around your process and its associated hazards and risks. During each service we will rigorously check the associated control equipment, functionality and alarms. We are able to service all makes of equipment from Honeywell, Heck, Dreager, Crowcon, MSA, Nira and Control Instruments.

Operational routinely design and install gas and solvent vapour monitoring systems that allow clients to measure LEL (Lower Explosion Limit). Often we use these measurements to proactively control the process, preventing explosive mixtures forming and providing safe shut down alarms where necessary.

Evidencing compliance

Upon site completion, Operational issues a comprehensive report with technical data and recommendations. The report ensures traceability for your internal maintenance, safety, and quality systems. Regardless of manufacturer or sensor type, Operational provides a comprehensive testing and servicing regime, addressing safety requirements and improving overall process performance.
